Scenario 1

You are a CT2 working in the ED. A 15- year- old girl presents with a 24 hour history of lower abdominal pain and PV bleeding. Further investigation reveals that she is pregnant. You inform her of this result and tell her that you will be referring her to O&G for further assessment due to the ongoing PV bleeding. The patient agrees with your plan and asks you to promise not to tell her parents that she is pregnant. You leave the consulting room to make the referral. Whilst you are writing your notes at the main ED desk, you are approached by the patient's parents who introduce themselves and ask you to explain their daughter's treatment plan. They are confused as to why she is being referred to O&G.

How would you manage this situation?

Scenario 2

You are a CT1 in orthopaedic surgery. The ward sister approaches you and informs you that a patient's lawyer is on the phone and has requested to speak to you. You agree to take the phone call.

The patient's lawyer introduces himself and states that the patient in question sustained an ankle fracture secondary to a slip at work. She will be taking legal action against her place of employment. The lawyer asks if you could kindly provide him with the medical details of this patient's admission over the phone.
