 Leadership/Management Station Practice Questions

Consider how you would approach each of the following scenarios.

Try to structure a succinct answer to each question.

Practice saying your answer out-loud or explaining it to a friend!

Scenario 1:

You are an orthopaedic CT2. One of your patients, a 22 year old female with an ankle fracture, has been in hospital for two days. She was due to go to theatre yesterday, but her operation was cancelled due to lack of time. She was visibly upset when she was informed of the cancellation but was more understanding when she was assured that she would be going to theatre today.

Your consultant has just informed you that her operation will again be postponed until tomorrow as a more urgent case is going to be taken to theatre instead. He has asked you to inform the patient of the change in plans.

How would you approach this situation?

Scenario 2:

You are a CT1 in the acute medical team. One of your patients, an 82 year old female with advanced COPD, deteriorated yesterday evening. The consultant discussed DNAR with the patient on his ward round this morning and proceeded to complete a DNAR form. Her son visits in the afternoon and approaches you on the ward. He states that he has just found out that a DNAR form has been completed for his mother. He is furious and demands to know why he was not included in the discussion.

How would you approach this situation?
